***Important Note: All age divisions are determined by a player’s birth year***
Rainbow Youth Coed
Available for ages 3-14. Teams will practice once a week and play a game on Saturday (except for u15 who practices 2x a week). During the spring season we sometimes have to schedule games on Sundays due to Saturdays lost to spring break and Easter weekend. Practice field options include the Rainbow Soccer Complex, Southern Community Park or Cedar Falls Park depending volunteer coach and player registration preferences and field availability. Games for our Rainbow Youth program are played at the Rainbow fields for ages u5 - u10 and Southern Community Park for ages u12 & u15. Teams will be scheduled for at least 7 games.
Chapel Hill United Coed
CHU is considered an advanced recreational program and these teams will practice twice a week with a game on Saturday (or occasionally Sunday in the spring season, see Rainbow Rec info above). It is designed for the player who hopes to develop more and move up the competitive ladder. Although still based in the same recreation spirit as Rainbow Youth, players who select CHU should expect a higher emphasis on skills and player development. This program is only available to players from u8-u12. Practice field options include the Rainbow Fields, Southern Community Park or Cedar Falls park depending volunteer coach and player registration preferences. Games for this program are played at the Triangle Church fields on Barbee Chapel Rd. on the Durham/Chapel Hill line for age u8 & u10 and the Southern Community Park for u12 although a game may occasionally be moved to another local site such as the Rainbow fields.
In addition to their regularly scheduled games CHU teams will be playing in festival soccer mid-season event at the Soccer.com fields in Efland which will replace their regularly scheduled Saturday game that weekend.
Available for players who are born in 2012, 2013, and 2014. This program meets for 1 hour for 6 Friday evenings from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Children will enjoy a mix of fun soccer activities as well as participating in short 3v3 or 4v4 scrimmages between group members at the end of the Friday sessions. There are no Saturday games for this introductory program. KickStart operates at both our Rainbow Soccer Complex and Southern Community Park locations, this program is ideal for the beginning or timid young player who will benefit from the measured pace and absence of "game day pressure." We offer a full curriculum for KickStart sessions which also makes it a great for parents who volunteer to coach but may not have ever played soccer themselves.
With an eye towards increasing the number of girls playing on all-girls recreation teams, this fall we are joining forces with a number of local recreation soccer programs including Woodcroft, Holt and Hillandale, to provide an all-girls league across southern Orange, Durham and northern Chatham counties. This league will serve girls born between 1/1/2006 & 12/31/2011. What does this new league mean for our all-girls teams that have been playing in the Rainbow league as Rainbow 1-practice or CH United 2-practice teams? Here are answers to some of the questions you might have:
Girls in the all-girls league who would have signed up for Rainbow this fall will continue to have access to the same practice locations and days as their siblings playing on our Rainbow/CHU leagues coed teams. For the Fall 2017 season you will register your girls wanting all-girls teams on the Rainbow website along with your other children; we will export your data to the All-Girls league registration system when that system becomes available.
We anticipate that game locations for Chapel Hill-based girls’ teams will be the same: either the Rainbow Fields, Triangle Church or Southern Community Park depending on the age of the team.
Registration, roster formation and game scheduling for the entire league will be handled by the Program Director and Registration Administrator for the new All-Girls League in collaboration with staff from the existing rec leagues.
All teams will practice once a week with their volunteer coach and will have a second, optional practice in the form of a technical training session with a licensed Triangle United soccer coach.
The All-Girls league players will have a mid-season Festival Day at the Soccer.com center in Efland included in their registration fees. This day will include 2 games per team with other league teams that they have not played along with some other fun soccer-based activities.
The length of the season will be the same as for our Rainbow League coed teams.
With the creation of the All-Girls league Rainbow will no longer be offering Chapel Hill United all-girls teams at u10 & u12. Players wanting to stay in our CH United league will need to move to CH United co-ed teams.
Details regarding league operations will continue to be ironed out prior to the start of the Fall 2017 season and shared with registrants as they become available. We are looking forward to the increased opportunities for growth and improved competition for our girls only teams wanting to remain in a recreation soccer setting.
For ages 15 and up we offer 2 Adult divisions: Adult 11 v 11 and Adult Over 40. The 11 v 11 league has two practices a week and a minimal-contact game on Saturdays. Games for this league are typically played at either the town-owned Meadowmont or Southern Community Park fields. A great way to exercise, have fun, and meet new people. Our Over 40’s meet two evenings a week and have a pickup, no-contact game on Saturday afternoons at the Rainbow Soccer Complex.
